Visual Field Assessments

What is a visual field test?
A visual field test is a method of measuring an individuals entire scope of vision. Visual field testing actually maps the visual fields of each eye.

What is a visual field test used for?
Visual field testing is used to detect any early (or late) signs of glaucoma damage to the optic nerve and/or damage to the retina.  It is also used to measure if the patient meets the minimum visual field as required by the Highway Traffic Act (Ministry of Transport Ontario Act 83/05)

How is visual field testing done?

Easy Field Visual Field Assessment ToolVisual fields are measured by a computerized assessment in the office.  For this procedure, one eye is covered and the patient places his or her chin in a projection device. Then, when the patient sees lights of various intensities and at different locations, he or she pushes a button. This process produces a computerized map of the visual field.
